President Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed the death of Rosalinda López Hernández, the newly elected senator from Tabasco, earlier today. López Hernández was a member of the Morena party, sister of Adán Augusto López, and wife of the Governor of Chiapas, Rutilio Escandón.
López Obrador began his Wednesday morning press conference expressing his sorrow over the senator's passing. He highlighted her popularity in her home state, where she won the recent election by a significant margin. "Rosalinda and her family are highly respected in Tabasco," he said. "Rest in peace, Rosalinda."
Throughout her political career, López Hernández worked closely with López Obrador. She was instrumental in his journey to the presidency and continued to be a key figure during his term. She previously held the position of general administrator of the Fiscal Audit of the Tax Administration Service (SAT) in the federal government.
In addition to her federal role, López Hernández served as a local and federal deputy. In her most recent election, she won nearly 60% of the votes, a lead of more than 40 points over the PRI-PAN and PRD candidates.
Rosalinda López Hernández was the sister of Adán Augusto López, a close friend of the president and former governor of Tabasco. She was also the wife of the current governor of Chiapas, who has expressed his condolences on social media.
