Taxi Concessions Revoked: Find Out the Fair Redistribution Plan

Alberto Batún Chulim, the Chair of the Mobility Commission in the XVIII Legislature, has stated that revoked taxi concessions will not be arbitrarily reassigned. The exact number of cancelled concessions and the procedures initiated are yet to be formally communicated to the Congress. However, Chulim has expressed his intent to meet with state officials to obtain further details.

This statement follows Governor Mara Lezama's announcement regarding the revocation of concessions from taxi drivers implicated in assaults on UBER drivers. These incidents have negatively impacted the tourist image of Quintana Roo.

Chulim noted that the Legislative Power is currently uninformed about the total number of cancelled concessions and the process for their reassignment. He said, "We do not know how many concessions have been cancelled, or what the procedure will be to deliver them to other people."

He emphasized that the new beneficiaries would be selected based on clear criteria, such as seniority and years of service. This approach is intended to ensure transparency and equity, in line with the principles of the Fourth Transformation (4T).

According to the Mobility Institute of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo), 10 taxi concessions have so far been cancelled due to acts of violence. Additionally, 114 revocation procedures have been initiated, and 64 more concessions are currently under investigation by the State Attorney General's Office.

Chulim reiterated that decisions will be made based on fair rules and without favoritism, ensuring that the concessions reach those who truly deserve them.
