Taxi Drivers Exchange Gunfire in Playa del Carmen

A gunfight reportedly broke out between taxi drivers in the Ejido neighborhood of Playa del Carmen, Solidaridad. Local residents alerted emergency services via a 911 call, reporting gunshots in the vicinity of their homes. Municipal police responded to the call and discovered several spent bullet casings at the scene. It was later revealed that the dispute involved taxi drivers from the Lazaro Cardenas del Rio union.

Local authorities confirmed that the gunfire occurred on 80th Avenue, between 14th and 16th streets. Police officers quickly arrived at the scene to address the situation. Preliminary investigations suggest a disagreement between two taxi drivers escalated into a shootout. However, the possibility that shots were fired from one rental vehicle at another has not been ruled out. The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) is set to further investigate the incident.

At the scene, only spent bullet casings were found. There were no immediate reports of injuries, and it remains unclear whether anyone sought medical attention for gunshot wounds at a local hospital or clinic. Forensic services are due to process the scene and secure any evidence, including an estimated five 9-mm spent bullet casings. This evidence will be added to the investigation file initiated by the Ministerial Police.
