The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) has announced that ten municipalities in Yucatan are classified as having "high violence" levels across the nation. This information was released through the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).

The Federal Government categorizes violence levels based on the risk factor, which is dependent on the municipality's violent environment. The scale ranges from 1, indicating the lowest level of violence, to 4, indicating the highest. No Yucatan locality was placed in group 4, which signifies "very high violence". However, several municipalities from states such as Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, Morelos, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Sinaloa, and Colima did fall into this category.

In the "high violence" category, group 3, Yucatan has ten municipalities listed. These are Izamal, Maxcanú, Mérida, Motul, Progreso, Tekax, Ticul, Tizimín, Umán, and Valladolid.

Also in this category, the Federal Government listed ten out of eleven municipalities from Quintana Roo. These include Bacalar, Cozumel, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Isla Mujeres, Chetumal, Lázaro Cárdenas, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cancun. Other municipalities in this group are from Baja California Norte, Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, and Colima.

According to the National Public Security System's Executive Secretariat, the ten Yucatan municipalities mentioned above had the following crime rates in June:

  1. Izamal, 26.55.
  2. Maxcanú, 15.8.

  7. Ticul, 2.24.
  8. Tizimín, 5.82.
  9. Umán, 13.40.

The DOF report also mentioned that the municipalities of Hunucmá and Kanasín in Yucatán, José María Morelos in Quintana Roo, and the 12 populations that make up Campeche, are at national violence level 2. Finally, the remaining 94 communities in Yucatán are classified at the lowest level, indicating low violence.
