'The Act of Disappearing' is a unique performance that seamlessly blends magic, theatre, and social commentary. Directed by Carla Pedroza, the play is set to tour venues in Quintana Roo and Yucatán throughout January. The plot revolves around Creon, a magician who fails to make a spectator vanish during a live performance. As a journalist begins to probe into the incident, a character named Antigone, with her mouth sewn shut, uses props to tell the story of her brother's disappearance and confronts Creon about his role in the event.
The production is a joint effort between Creares Escénicas and Explayarte Producciones. It explores contemporary and universal themes of justice, memory, and resistance. The tour is supported by the System of Cultural Creation and Project Support, which promotes cultural outreach and the performing arts.
The cast of 'The Act of Disappearing' includes Bruno Castillo as Creon, Alejandra Hinojosa as Antigone, Brenda Zenil as Creon's assistant, and Gabriel Morales as the journalist. The sound design and original music are the work of Éric Flores, while Mica Mont’s compositions create an immersive atmosphere. Costume design is handled by Liliana Alarcón, who also oversees general production. Carla Pedroza, in addition to directing, is responsible for the set design. Promotion, public relations, and management are coordinated by Luis Ernesto López and Azucena Rodríguez.
The play will be performed 20 times in Quintana Roo and Yucatán in January 2025. The tour begins in Chetumal on the 11th and 12th, moves to Cancún on the 15th, 18th, and 19th, and then to Playa del Carmen on the 17th and 18th. The final performances will be in Valladolid, Yucatán, on the 25th and 26th, and in Mérida on the 29th, 30th, and 31st of January and 1st of February. Tickets are available at www.tickets.org.mx.
