Tulum, unlike its neighboring cities Cancún and Playa del Carmen, has evolved into an ecotourism hotspot in Quintana Roo. It draws visitors who seek a connection with nature and, more importantly, their own spirituality. This has given rise to a unique cultural tribe known as the "Tuluminati".

The term "Tuluminati" is a blend of Tulum and Illuminati, the latter being a rumored group of wealthy individuals who have chosen to adopt a hippie lifestyle, or alternatively, hippies who have ascended to wealth. As such, dressing in the Tuluminati style can be quite costly.

So, how much does it cost to truly dress like a Tuluminati? It's clear that money is no object for members of this tribe, and the price tags on their clothing might shock those earning a modest income. For instance, a simple hat can cost the equivalent of two weeks' wages. A TikToker recently broke down the cost of a typical Tuluminati outfit in a video:

  • A detailed hat – 6,200 pesos
  • Tiaras – 1,800 pesos
  • Dress – 25,000 pesos
  • Men's cape – 7,500 pesos

As you can see, the price of fitting in with the Tuluminati is steep. Each member typically sports at least 10,000 pesos worth of clothing, excluding footwear. It's an extravagant sum, but would you be willing to pay it?
