The Interoceanic Train, which traverses the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, has been operational for eight months since its launch on December 23, 2023. The train line, known as Line Z, connects Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz and Salina Cruz in Oaxaca. The project aims to stimulate economic and tourism growth between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. It also seeks to enhance the region's education, health, and agri-food industry.
Similar to the Maya Train, the Istmo Railroad has sparked interest among tourists and locals alike. To date, it has transported over 50,000 passengers between the two ports.
Passengers can purchase tickets for the Interoceanic Train in three categories: Tourist, Executive, and Managerial. However, only the Tourist and Executive classes are currently available. The Tourist class ticket, priced at 458 pesos for the full journey, includes basic amenities such as air conditioning, restrooms, and luggage space. The Executive class ticket, priced at 608 pesos for the full journey, offers additional luggage space, extra legroom, and leather reclining seats with a fold-out table.
Throughout the summer vacation period, the Istmo Railroad offered a 50 percent discount for children, students, seniors, and people with disabilities. This offer is still available for the remainder of August 2024.
