Following the intense debate between the gubernatorial candidates, we turn our attention to the programmatic proposals put forth by Joaquín "Huacho" Díaz Mena, the representative for the "Let's Keep Making History" coalition. As previously mentioned, the Mayan Renaissance Plan outlines key strategies for economic development.
The plan acknowledges one of Yucatan's most significant challenges: reducing systemic disparities that are geographically, economically, and socially rooted. These disparities hinder stable, comprehensive development. The majority of Yucatan's economic growth is concentrated in the city of Merida, with the service sector accounting for over two-thirds of the region's Gross Domestic Product.
Historically, Yucatan's economic growth has been closely tied to its relationship with the federal government. Since the mid-20th century, the federal government has provided substantial resources for infrastructure development and other key areas, significantly benefiting the state. It's clear that Yucatan thrives when its growth aligns with federal economic policies.
The Mayan Renaissance Plan includes several strategic projects. These include an Intermodal Connection, which encompasses the Trans-Isthmus Train, Maya Train, and Progress Port Transport Axis; a Suburban Metropolitan Ring; the modernization of the Progress High Port; and the consolidation of the Chichen Itza Airport.
