The Maya Train route, connecting Palenque in Chiapas to Cancún, is expected to boost tourism by at least 10%. This is due to the new travel packages being offered by agencies, which are already seeing strong interest.

Angélica Villatoro, a representative from the wholesale operator Travel por México, explained that they are currently selling packages that include the Maya Train journey and a stay in Cancún. These packages, ranging from four to eight nights, are proving popular, particularly with domestic tourists from the northern and central regions of Mexico.

Villatoro detailed that an all-inclusive package, which includes a train journey, can cost up to 22,000 pesos. This offers travelers a unique opportunity to experience this new form of mobility. Currently, there are four different packages available that connect Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. The train makes several stops along the way, helping to stimulate hotel occupancy and boost the local economy at each destination.

On average, Travel por México is selling 20 packages per month. This number is expected to increase once the 1,500-kilometer Maya Train route is fully completed. There is already a significant interest in exploring other areas of Quintana Roo.
