A tragic incident occurred at the Blue Bay Esmeralda hotel in Playa del Carmen when a foreign tourist fell from the fifth floor of his room and died instantly. The incident happened at 19:40 on Wednesday at the hotel, which is located 4 kilometers north of the city center.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident through a 911 call reporting a person had fallen from the fifth floor. Despite the hotel staff's discretion, it was revealed that the deceased was a 21-year-old Canadian tourist who was vacationing with a friend. The victim was identified as Wevers L.

Preliminary reports suggest that Wevers slipped and fell onto the grass below. Investigators from the State Attorney General's office were dispatched to the scene to retrieve the body.

Interestingly, the Civil Protection agency has not yet issued a statement or imposed any sanctions on the hotel in relation to the incident.

This incident follows a recent fire at the hotel, where a palapa and a shed over 12 meters long were engulfed in flames. The fire exposed the hotel staff's lack of training and equipment to handle such emergencies.
