A day of beach fun in Akumal took a tragic turn for a couple when the man started feeling unwell while in a tourist vehicle. After stepping out of the vehicle, he sought shade but sadly passed away from a heart attack.
The incident was reported around 12:20 pm on Monday, February 3rd, through the emergency number 911. The call indicated that a person was in critical condition near the entrance of the Akumal Dive Shop.
Responding to the call, the Municipal Police of Tulum arrived on the scene and called for an ambulance from the Salud y Vida company. Despite the paramedics' attempts at providing first aid, the man showed no signs of life.
The police secured the area and spoke with the driver of the tourist vehicle. The driver explained that they had left a cenote and were heading to the beaches of Akumal when the deceased mentioned feeling unwell and exited the vehicle. He walked a short distance before collapsing. Lifeguards from the nearby establishment tried to assist but were unable to save his life.
The deceased was identified as 51-year-old Rafael “D” from California, United States. His body was transported to the Forensic Medical Service for further procedures.
