Transport workers staged a protest today outside the offices of construction company ICA in Playa del Carmen. They are demanding payment of a debt that totals over nine million pesos. These workers have been involved in various sections of the Maya Train project and the construction of Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).
Salvador Garnica, a representative of the Transport Union, stated that the company abruptly stopped payments two years ago. He noted that the company even owes them for work that has already been completed. The workers have taken legal action against the company, filing collective lawsuits, but have yet to receive any response.
The protesting workers have warned that they will persist in their demands for payment. They are even considering setting up a camp at the site if the company continues to ignore their demands for dialogue.
