The mayor of Solidaridad, Estefanía Mercado, has recently inaugurated the Board of Directors for the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF). The board, which will serve from 2024 to 2027, was sworn in at the DIF's headquarters. This move signifies a significant step towards strengthening the social assistance system, which caters to minors, young adults, the elderly, and those in vulnerable situations.
Mayor Mercado emphasized the critical role of the DIF, particularly in light of Solidaridad's growing population. She stressed the need for DIF's efforts to be expansive, committed, and transparent in order to serve the entire community, especially those in more vulnerable situations.
She also highlighted the necessity for a shift in the DIF's work dynamics. She stated, "The focus of our municipality should be on action rather than appearances, as has been the case in the past. We need to proactively address social issues."
In this context, she expressed her trust in Eduardo Asencio, a representative of a new generation dedicated to youth issues. This priority is already being addressed by Verónica Lezama, president of the State DIF System. Together with the Solidaridad DIF, they aim to provide care for the vulnerable population.
Furthermore, she called on the general director, Jesús Rodríguez, and the entire DIF team to work with "professionalism and promptness in all care and prevention actions, ensuring the comprehensive protection of people's human rights."
