Tulum International Airport Surpasses AIFA in Passengers

In just half a year, Tulum International Airport (AIT) has become one of Mexico's leading terminals for international passenger service. The recently opened terminal in the Mexican Caribbean has already outpaced Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in terms of the number of international passengers served this year.

Remarkably, the Tulum terminal has recorded 6,281 international commercial flight operations in less than a year since its inauguration. This surpasses the 4,614 operations recorded by AIFA from the start of 2022 until August. According to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), Tulum now ranks as the tenth busiest airport in the nation for international passengers this year. This list is topped by the terminals in Cancun and Mexico City.

The success of Tulum airport in attracting more international passengers than AIFA can be attributed to both its popular tourist location and its connectivity. "In less than a year, Tulum has become one of the main gateways for foreigners into the country. While it's not yet competing with Cancun, it is helping to ease congestion at that terminal," stated Miguel Vallín, the director of AFAC, recently.
