Alfredo Soto Martínez, a representative from the Employers' Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) in Tulum, is urging future local lawmakers to regulate vacation rentals such as Airbnb. He views these services as a significant and unfair threat to the local hotel industry.

Despite the recent increase in flights due to the new Tulum airport, Soto Martínez emphasizes that vacation rentals continue to be a formidable challenge. He encourages voters to elect officials who are willing to collaborate with them in addressing this issue.

Soto Martínez insists that lawmakers and municipal leaders need to strive for a stable state economy, generating consistent income throughout the year rather than just during the peak six-month tourism season. He anticipates that the upcoming election will signify a significant turning point in Mexico's history.

Soto Martínez also notes that the business community is encouraging its employees to vote and then return to work. He underscores the importance of civic duty, stating that without a sense of responsibility and civility, the future of tourism is at risk.
