Tulum, a town steeped in tradition and pride, recently celebrated its second annual 'Walk of the Souls'. This event, part of the Janal Pixán celebrations, holds a significant place in the hearts of Tulum's residents and visitors alike.

On Thursday, October 31, as the sun was setting and the rain began to fall, the walk commenced at the municipal cemetery. Hugo Villagómez, the director of the House of Culture, was in attendance. He explained the tradition, marked by candles, incense, and regional attire, to the younger generations present.

Throughout the walk, traditional Mayan music echoed, evoking the spirits of the departed. Prayers and voices added to the unique experience. Villagómez expressed his joy and emotion at the turnout, stating, "This journey of the souls symbolizes a lot for our Mexican roots. Seeing so many families with candles in their hands, braving the rain, was a testament to love and respect for our traditions."

Villagómez hopes that this event will continue to grow with the participation of families, young and old, as well as tourists. The aim is for everyone to share a moment with those who have passed on, in a living tribute.

The walk concluded in the central area, adjacent to the municipal palace. Participants respectfully paid homage at an altar adorned with cempasúchil flowers and copal, filling the air with a rich, aromatic scent.
