“Tulum’s Bold Move Against Mosquito Menace”

A person sits on the tailgate of a pickup truck emitting a large cloud of fumigation smoke to combat mosquitos.

The Tulum City Council has launched a comprehensive strategy to combat dengue, zika, and chikungunya. This initiative comes in response to recent heavy rainfall, which has led to a significant increase in mosquito populations in high-risk areas. The council has made substantial progress in fumigation and thermal fogging to control the mosquito population.

Dr. Sonia Vargas Torres, who leads the municipal health department, emphasized the importance of community education in the fight against these mosquito-borne diseases. She also appealed to the public to participate actively in prevention efforts. The strategy targets public spaces, schools, and areas on the outskirts of the city.

Despite complaints about the prevalence of mosquitoes, there have been no reported cases of dengue, zika, or chikungunya at the city's 11 health centers. Alongside efforts to control mosquito larvae, the council has promptly addressed other health-related issues to ensure the safety and well-being of Tulum's residents.
