Tulum's mayor, Diego Castañon, responded promptly to reports of dogs and cats being subjected to abuse. The animals were found in a visibly poor condition, chained up and neglected. At 4 PM, Castañon convened a meeting with representatives from the Secretariat of Public Security, the Municipal Health Secretariat, and the Ecology Directorate, alongside the Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office, to plan a rescue operation.
By 5 PM, the rescue operation was successful, with the animals being placed under the care of veterinary professionals for evaluation and treatment.
The municipal government has confirmed that the Prosecutor's Office is launching an investigation into the allegations of animal abuse. Legal action will be taken against those found responsible. Mayor Castañon urged residents to continue reporting such incidents, reiterating his administration's commitment to animal welfare.
