Three police officers in Tulum have been arrested following allegations of involvement in a kidnapping. The arrests have sparked calls for a stronger stance against crime and impunity in the region.

The community's peace was disrupted by an incident involving Darinel Morales Morales, the Deputy Director of the municipal police. Morales was arrested in Cancún after discharging his weapon into the air while intoxicated at a party. This reckless act caused widespread panic among local residents.

Following his arrest, Morales was handed over to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) for further investigation. This incident has led to public outcry for his immediate dismissal. Morales assumed his position on October 1, 2024, marking the beginning of the current municipal administration.

Despite public concern, there has been no official response or statement addressing the issue. An internal source has indicated that the case is under investigation. Unofficial reports suggest the severity of the incident could lead to Morales' removal from his position.

Community leaders Carlos Narváez and Eliodoro Torres have expressed their concern, stating that Morales' actions show a severe disregard for the law and his public duties. They both emphasized the need for transparency and integrity in handling the situation. The current authorities have been accused of arrogance and a lack of commitment to the welfare of the citizens.
