In the municipality of Tulum, Quintana Roo, a participatory workshop was held focusing on the construction of an Ecological Management Program. This event saw the active participation of 70 community members and municipal leaders. The workshop is a step forward in the final stages of the Ecological Management Program's development, creating spaces for governance where all voices can be heard. The goal is to reach a consensus on the use policies and criteria of the tool that will manage the municipal territory.
The mayor, Diego Castañón Trejo, is spearheading efforts to strengthen public participation, emphasizing its importance and practical application. During the workshop, discussion tables were set up to analyze and debate topics such as human settlements, tourism, ecotourism, forestry, beekeeping, livestock, agriculture, and mining.
One of the proposals that emerged from the workshop was to allocate an area for light industry. This idea was motivated by the potential opportunities presented by the nearby international airport and the Mayan train stations. These could provide new economic activities in the medium term.
