Residents of Tulum, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Quintana Roo, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the state of the city's streets and public services. Demonstrating outside the Municipal Palace of Tulum, they voiced their concerns about the city's deteriorating image.
Long-time resident Albina Mador Manrique expressed her disappointment, stating that despite having an international airport, a museum, the Mayan Train, and some of the world's best beaches, the city's appeal is marred by garbage, potholes, and corrupt police.
She criticized Mayor Diego Castañón, saying, "He's been mayor for two years, but he has done nothing. We need garbage collection, street repairs, lighting. The numerous potholes are causing accidents and damaging cars. Even if you file for compensation for the damages, the repair can take up to a year."
Residents from various neighborhoods, including Ejido, Palm, Mayapax Extension, and Central, echoed these sentiments. They expressed their frustration with the lack of action from authorities to address the city's issues.
Javier, another resident, voiced his discontent, saying, "We're tired of what's happening in Tulum." Germán Herrera added, "They try to convince us that they're going to start working, but the reality is that Tulum is a disaster."
Guadalupe Hernández highlighted the issue of the city's growing stray dog population, urging the authorities to take action. She stated, "As long as the mayor is living in an altered reality, the people will continue to disagree with him because he's not doing what he should be doing."
