Over 90 families in the Tren Maya community in Tulum are on high alert due to rumors of an impending eviction order. The order is believed to be initiated by a judge from Playa del Carmen. In response, residents of this community started barricading themselves from the early hours of Tuesday at the entrance to their settlement. This settlement is situated between kilometers 222 and 223 of the Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto federal highway.

Frank Molina, a local resident, revealed that they were alerted by a fellow resident about the potential execution of the eviction order within hours. As a result, approximately 70 people began to barricade the entrance to the settlement from the early morning. The settlement spans around 4 hectares and lacks basic services such as drainage, drinking water, and electricity.

Molina expressed their determination to protect what they have built over the past 15 years. They hope to be permitted to continue their struggle to secure a heritage for their families. He emphasized that everyone in the settlement lacks alternative housing options. It's noteworthy to mention that a few weeks ago, the State Attorney General's Office executed an eviction at the main entrance to the community, installing security seals to prevent its use.
