Residents from Andromeda street, situated between Osiris and Orion in downtown Tulum, gathered outside the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) offices this morning. They were protesting the ongoing power outage in their part of the town center. It's reported that around 20 families have been without electricity for five days, despite having filed timely reports. However, there has been no response from the CFE to address the issue.
The lack of power has caused significant concern among the residents. Over the course of the days without electricity, they've had to dispose of food that has spoiled due to the outage. This is particularly challenging given the current contingency. Furthermore, the high temperatures have added to their discomfort. Local merchants have been forced to purchase or rent small power generators to keep their businesses running.
The residents staged their protest in front of the CFE offices, demanding that the state-owned company restore their electricity. They claim to have been ignored by the company, despite the urgency of their situation. "Days ago a transformer exploded and cracked. It's strange because we keep getting the same report numbers," one resident explained.
The power outage has not only spoiled food but also posed a significant health risk. Some residents have medical conditions that require electricity. One resident shared, "A neighbor had to nebulize his daughter, but without power, he had to seek help elsewhere. Another neighbor is very sick and needs electricity. There's also a child with lung problems who needs to be connected to a medical device."
