The XXII Tulum Sea Turtle Festival, initially planned for last weekend, has been postponed due to the impact of tropical storm Nadine. The new dates for the festival are now set for the 25th, 26th, and 27th of October. This announcement was made by Itzel Trujano, president of the State Committee for the Protection, Conservation, and Management of the species.
The festival will commence on Friday, the 25th of October, in Akumal. The opening ceremony, a traditional Mayan ritual, will take place on the beach at 3:00 pm. This will be followed by a parade at 3:30 pm. The community's sports dome will host a fair from 4:00 pm, featuring stalls, games, workshops, dance, music, and more.
On Saturday, the festival will move to Tulum. A fair is scheduled to take place from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Casa de la Cultura. A turtle caravan will start from the intersection of Satellite and Tulum avenues. From 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm, there will be a display of images from the photography contest, an award ceremony, and the appointment of the turtle-caretaker of the year.
The final day of the festival, Sunday the 27th, will be held at the Sea Turtle Sanctuary in Xcacel-Xcacelito. The day will begin with a reception and registration at 2:30 pm. From 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, there will be a sand sculpture contest. Concurrently, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the Turtle Cinema will be open, and a fair will run from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
