The Tulum City Council, through its Environmental Sustainability Department, is actively participating in the conservation of sea turtles. The council has aligned with the State Week of the Sea Turtle, a statewide initiative for turtle conservation, by launching a series of engaging activities.
Educational sessions about sea turtles were conducted at primary schools across Tulum. These activities were carried out in three schools, successfully raising awareness among 350 students. The Tulum City Council emphasizes the crucial role that turtles play in maintaining the planet's ecological balance. They are primarily responsible for cleaning the oceans and preserving the food chain, as the survival of various marine animals depends on different species of turtles.
Furthermore, turtle eggshells and unhatched eggs contribute to the nutrient content of the beaches, aiding in the prevention of soil erosion.
