In a significant step for Quintana Roo's educational development, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa inaugurated the Technological University of Tulum. This is the first public higher education institution in the municipality. During the event, the Governor signed the New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo. The agreement aims to promote holistic education, ensure dignified educational spaces, and encourage student participation in the learning process.
Governor Lezama emphasized the importance of the new university for the youth of Tulum and its surrounding areas. Previously, these young people often had to move away to continue their studies or abandon their education due to a lack of resources. The Governor said, "Today we are fulfilling a commitment to Quintana Roo's youth. We are a humanist government with a feminist heart, committed to building their future without them needing to leave their homes."
In response to student enthusiasm, Governor Lezama announced the construction of a dome, similar to those in 1,109 schools that were previously without this essential facility. She stressed that the university is not only a place of learning but also a symbol of hope and opportunity. It provides young people with the chance to pursue their dreams without having to leave their homes.
The Technological University of Tulum was constructed and equipped by the Institute of Educational Physical Infrastructure of Quintana Roo (IFEQROO), led by Aldo Castro Jiménez. The project, which cost 83.4 million pesos, includes 14 classrooms, a conference room, a kitchen, bathrooms, two laboratories, a teachers' room, a boardroom, administrative offices, a civic square, and a main entrance. The building is also equipped with an electrical network, a hydropneumatic system, and a solar panel system.
The university was awarded the "Verified Educational Investment – Transparent Infrastructure" distinction by the Institute for Access to Information and Personal Data Protection of Quintana Roo (IDAIPQROO). This award recognizes the transparency and publicity in the use of resources allocated to the project.
Initially, the Technological University of Tulum will welcome 126 students, with the capacity to accommodate more than 700 students across four courses: Tourism Management and Development, Architecture, Gastronomy, and Accounting. The new campus, designed with modernity, safety, and comfort in mind, is equipped to offer quality education and promote innovation in the state's educational system. It can also serve as a hurricane shelter if needed.
Governor Lezama reiterated her commitment to transforming the educational system in Quintana Roo, stating that this project is just the beginning of a series of actions aimed at guaranteeing comprehensive and excellent education for all residents of the state.
