The recent announcement of a new $65 peso charge to enter Jaguar Park in Tulum has stirred up controversy among local business owners, merchants, and employees. This increase takes the total cost for visitors of the archaeological zone to $360 pesos.
Hoteliers in the area have voiced their worries about a potential drop in tourism due to the price hike. In response to these concerns, Tulum's mayor, Diego Castañón Trejo, has announced that a negotiation meeting will take place immediately.
This meeting will involve representatives from all levels of government, as well as the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and Conanp. Mayor Castañón Trejo emphasized that the aim of the meeting is to find a balance between preserving Jaguar Park and maintaining the economic sustainability of the tourist destination.
