Tulum's Jaguar Park, a popular attraction for locals and tourists, is becoming even more accessible. Known for its connection with the Mayan Train, the park has seen a surge in popularity since its inception. In response, the Government of Quintana Roo has decided to extend free entry to not only local residents but also to foreign residents.
When the park first opened, only Tulum citizens were allowed free entry into the ecological center, which is dedicated to the protection of plants and wildlife. Other visitors had to pay an entry fee based on their residency status. Foreign visitors were charged 355 Mexican pesos, nationals were charged 255 pesos, and residents of other Quintana Roo municipalities were charged 155 pesos per person.
However, the government has now announced that foreign residents will also be granted free access to the park. In a recent social media post, the Government of Quintana Roo outlined the criteria for foreign residents to gain free admission. Those who do not meet the criteria will still be required to pay the full price.
To qualify for free entry, foreign residents must present an updated residency card at the ticket counter. Those interested in obtaining a Tulum residency card, which also offers other benefits, must meet the following requirements:
- Have lived in Tulum for at least two years
- Provide a document verifying Tulum residence
- Have the National Electoral Institute (INE) card of two witnesses to confirm residency
- Complete the residency form in blue ink
- Pay a fee of 253 pesos
To apply for the residency card, applicants must visit the Tulum City Hall offices between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and submit the necessary documentation. Within three days, applicants will receive their residency card and can enjoy free access to the Jaguar Park, among other benefits.
