The 23rd edition of the Tunich Handicraft Fair, the most significant artisan fair in the southeast, is set to take place from July 26 to August 4. This highly anticipated event will bring together 140 local and national artisans from Mérida, showcasing the economic development of the local artisan community and promoting the sale and consumption of local products.
This year, the fair will place a special emphasis on gastronomy, recognizing it as an essential part of the local culture, alongside the craftsmanship. The fair aims to preserve traditions, ancient techniques, and knowledge passed down through generations. In celebration of the fair's 23rd year, the event will also promote the city's gastronomic designations to local, national, and foreign visitors. Mérida is part of the Food Capitals network of the Délice Network and is recognized for its gastronomy by UNESCO's Creative Cities.
The previous edition of the fair had an impressive economic impact of 6,934,036 pesos, representing a 15% increase in sales from the 2022 edition. The event attracted over 110,000 attendees. This year, the fair is expected to be even more diverse, with participants not only from Mérida but also from Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Puebla. Attendees can look forward to a wide variety of high-quality products, including stone, wood, filigree, fine jewelry, and textiles.
The Tunich Fair is a collaborative effort among officials, craftsmen, exhibitors, and citizens, all working together to stimulate the economy and strengthen Mérida's presence in global markets with its unique crafts. The fair also highlights the city's commitment to sustainable and solidarity economic development, showcasing stone and wood as representative elements of the Dzityá artisans and the broader artisan community.
