Two American Tourists Attacked in Tulum Beach Area

Two Americans were treated for injuries suffered in a violent robbery after being shot with a firearm in the hotel zone of ​​Tulum in an attempted robbery.

According to preliminary reports, the men were attacked in the popular restaurant Tabú, located at kilometer 7 of the beach road. They were able to receive medical attention by Red Cross paramedics, at at the Xanath hotel, located on Polar Street between Jupiter and Alfa, where they were staying.

According to reports, the two men were in the restaurant when they were approached by two armed men. They were subdued by their assailants and one of the foreigners suffered a bullet wound to his shoulder. The other was struck in the forehead with the handle of the pistol. They were then robbed and the assailants escaped.

The injured men, originally from California, United States, were able to flee the scene on bicycle and go to the hotel where they are staying. There they were able to receive medical assistance. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The State Prosecutor’s Office reported that it has opened an investigation. Agents will carry out an investigation to identify the probable assailants.
