Two Canadian men, both aged 22, have been detained in Tulum, Mexico, following allegations of the rape of a 19-year-old Canadian tourist. The outcome of their case is expected to be announced this Thursday.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, February 19th, at a hotel in the ninth municipality of Quintana Roo. Both the accused and the victim were guests at this hotel. According to the official report, the victim was vacationing with her family and had met the accused men in the hotel pool area, where they had been drinking together.
After some time, the victim began to feel unwell, possibly due to the effects of alcohol. It is alleged that one of the men, identified as Joseph David 'N', then led her to a room where the crime was committed, with the assistance of the second man, Matthew 'N'.
When the victim's family realized she was missing, they began to search the hotel. They eventually found her in the accused men's room, in a distressed state and showing signs of abuse.
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, the two Canadian men were detained and handed over to the Public Ministry. They have since been placed in preventive detention as a precautionary measure. Their legal status is expected to be determined on February 27th, in accordance with local laws.
