Shocking Arrest: Cancún Taxi Drivers Extort and Assault Uber Operator

Two taxi drivers in Cancún have been arrested following the circulation of images on social media. The images depict the drivers assaulting an Uber operator at the city's International Airport. The State Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the arrest of the two individuals, Enrique “N” and Javier Isaías “N”.

The two drivers are suspected of assault and robbery. They allegedly extorted the Uber driver, demanding payments of 10,000 pesos and then 7,000 pesos for the right to operate in the airport area. When the Uber driver refused to pay, the taxi drivers reportedly assaulted him on July 22nd as he arrived to pick up a passenger at the airport.

Following their arrest, Enrique “N” and Javier Isaías “N” were handed over to the Public Ministry, who will determine their legal fate. If found guilty, they could face up to 37 years in prison.

In addition to potential jail time, the Prosecutor's Office plans to request that the State Mobility Institute revoke the taxi licenses of the two drivers, effectively banning them from providing services.
