Two young children, aged 3 and 4, were found in a plastic box on a busy street in Playa del Carmen. The children, who identified themselves as Israel and Dariél, had left their home to search for their mother and got lost.
An early morning commuter discovered the children on her way to work around 6:40 a.m. She noticed the unusual situation on Av. Constituyentes with Lirios in the irregular area of Inn House and immediately reported it to the authorities.
The children informed the authorities that they were home alone and had ventured out in search of their mother, but were unable to locate her. The Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) promptly responded to the situation and took the children into their care.
Due to the apparent neglect from their family, the children are now under the care of the Integral Family Development (DIF), a social assistance institution. As of now, no family members have come forward to claim the children. They remain under the care of DIF, who are ensuring their well-being while they await a responsible family member to take them home.
