Tragic Hit-and-Run Kills Two Iberostar Hotel Employees

A damaged black car with its front hood crumpled is surrounded by police officers at a nighttime accident scene with police vehicles in the background and emergency lights visible.

Two employees of the Iberostar hotel tragically lost their lives on Saturday night in a hit-and-run incident. The accident occurred on the Playa del Carmen-Tulum road, north of the city.

Preliminary reports indicate that the incident took place around 8 pm. The two women were attempting to cross the road, presumably to catch a ride, when they were struck by a car. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle hit the women and then continued driving northward.

One of the victims was left at the scene, lifeless. The other woman was dragged for approximately a kilometer before falling from the vehicle.

The driver, suspected to be intoxicated, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by the police. Paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the death of both victims.

Following the investigation by officials from the State Attorney General's Office, the bodies were transported to the Forensic Medical Service.
