Two men were apprehended in Playa del Carmen for allegedly tampering with an ATM. The pair were found and arrested by the Traffic Police on Tuesday following a tip-off from a local citizen.
The informant reported seeing the two men, both from Mexico City, attempting to install a wooden plate into the cash slot of an ATM. This led the police to initiate a search for the suspects and their motorcycle.
The suspects, identified as Luis "N", 38, and Misael "N", 28, were eventually located at the intersection of Andres Quintana Roo Avenue and 55th Avenue. They are currently being held in the custody of the Solidaridad police.
In a statement, the Solidaridad Citizen Security (SSC) confirmed the arrest of the two men. They were reported to have been tampering with an ATM by placing a wooden plate in the cash slot.
The SSC statement also detailed how Traffic agents, while patrolling 50th North Avenue in the El Pedregal neighborhood, were approached by a citizen who reported the ATM tampering. The citizen also informed the agents that the suspects had fled the scene on a motorcycle.
This information triggered a search operation that led to the arrest of Luis "N" and Misael "N" after the police intercepted them on Andres Quintana Roo Avenue and 55th Avenue.
Upon inspecting the ATM, the agents discovered a black wooden plate in the cash slot. The arrested men were found to be carrying a bag and a container of glue. These items have been handed over to the State Attorney General's Office for further investigation.
