Fatal Motorcycle Shooting Rocks Cancún Suburb

Violence continues to escalate in Cancún, with two more deaths recently confirmed. The victims were on a motorcycle when they were shot in an apparent chase and armed assault in the town of Alfredo V. Bonfil. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday evening on Pedro Joaquín Coldwell Avenue, in the 308th Superblock.

Bystanders alerted authorities to a confrontation involving individuals on motorcycles, during which gunshots were heard. Cancún police officers arrived at the scene in Bonfil and discovered spent 9-millimeter shells. They also found an injured person who was immediately taken to the hospital.

There are conflicting reports about a second injured person. Some suggest that this individual reached the hospital independently, while others believe they were initially missed and only discovered minutes later in a severely weakened condition.

Investigators from the Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Quintana Roo arrived at the scene, secured the area, and initiated investigations. However, there are currently no leads on the suspected attackers.

It has been confirmed that both individuals on the motorcycle have died. It is thought that one of them tried to resist the attack, while the other, a woman, attempted to find cover. Tragically, both succumbed to their injuries. One of the deceased has been identified as Milton, aged between 20 and 25 years old. Authorities are investigating whether this was a targeted attack or a clash between rival gangs.

Cancún continues to face a serious security crisis. On February 6, a person was robbed in the Las Américas Plaza parking lot, which has recently seen a murder and an attempted jewelry store robbery. Preliminary reports suggest that the robbers stole cell phones, a computer, a tablet, and other items, resulting in a significant theft of several thousand pesos in Cancún. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
