Women Arrested for $250M Fraud Scheme in Playa del Carmen

Two women were recently arrested in Tijuana as they attempted to escape to the United States. The arrest followed an Interpol alert regarding a fraud case involving 250 million pesos against the company Derimaya.

Derimaya is a business in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, with both private and public investment. The company has been in the spotlight after the arrest of two women, Rebeca and Cecilia Maria, who were partners in the firm. These women are the daughters of Rangel Castelazo. They attempted to evade justice by traveling to Tijuana with the intention of crossing into the United States.

Their plan to enter the United States was thwarted due to a previously issued Interpol red notice, which included immigration alerts. As a result, they were arrested. Following the completion of legal proceedings, the women were transferred back to their home state. They were then handed over to the Control Judge who had requested them.

The charges against these women are not limited to the massive fraud against Derimaya. They are also suspected of involvement in an alleged real estate cartel. The fraud was first discovered during a routine meeting in 2021.
