Uber drivers congregated this afternoon at Malecón Tajamar, launching a peaceful protest march towards Cancun International Airport. The demonstration was in response to alleged abuses by the National Guard. Águeda Esperilla, a spokesperson for the drivers, reported plans for a partial closure of an entrance and exit lane outside the airport terminal.

The peaceful demonstration was organized to protest against the perceived misconduct of the National Guard, who are accused of colluding with unauthorized taxi drivers to harass Uber operators. Esperilla claimed that these unauthorized taxi drivers often identify Uber drivers to the National Guard, who then detain the Uber drivers, sometimes even forcing them to drop off their passengers mid-route.

Esperilla pointedly held Rodrigo Alcázar and Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres, accountable for any potential resurgence of aggression from taxi drivers towards Uber operators.
