Cancun's nautical industry experienced a downturn in expected revenue over the long weekend due to strong southern winds and gusts. These weather conditions hampered the industry's ability to operate as planned. Ricardo Muleiro López, Director of the Nautical Associates of Quintana Roo, stated that on Saturday, the port was closed to smaller vessels. Additionally, for at least half of Sunday, operations were halted due to the wind.

Reports indicate that wind gusts exceeded 55 kilometers per hour.

López also mentioned that poor weather is anticipated for Monday. However, the industry is closely monitoring potential changes. The nautical community has been encouraged to stay informed via updates from the Port Authority. This will help them understand the operational capacity for the final day of the long weekend, which falls on March 21st.

Despite the challenges faced by the nautical sector, the weekend saw a surge in air operations. On Saturday alone, Quintana Roo announced 752 air operations. Cancun International Airport accounted for 660 of these operations, while Sunday saw over 604 operations. Hotel occupancy rates also remained high, exceeding 80%. This was largely driven by local tourism, with some hotels still hosting spring break visitors.
