The upper floor of the Diana Laura Riojas market in Playa del Carmen's Colosio neighborhood is finally set for renovation. This comes after a prolonged period of closure since the tenure of Cristina Torres Gómez. The refurbishment is scheduled to commence once the ongoing work at the downtown 10th district market is completed, which is expected to be around March.
Jesús Antonio Pérez Ayala, the Director of Markets, revealed that the refurbishment of the Bellavista market and Mundo de las Piñatas will follow suit. "Our goal for the Colosio market is to begin renovations in March. We also have plans to upgrade the Bellavista market to provide tenants and citizens with enhanced spaces," he said.
The second level of the Colosio market, which originally housed 125 stalls, will be reduced to around 30. The aim is to transform it into a dining area complete with a performance space for customers who come to eat.
As part of the refurbishment project, the officials plan to integrate these three markets into a tourist route. This is aimed at attracting both domestic and international visitors to experience and enjoy the local cuisine and products.
These refurbishments are part of a broader initiative by the Solidaridad Municipality to rejuvenate these commercial spaces. The goal is to improve conditions for tenants and citizens, stimulate local consumption, and foster economic recovery in the area.
