Local residents and travelers are urgently calling on authorities to repair a hazardous section of Federal Highway 307. The area in question spans from Cecilio Chi to the Airport. Drivers are increasingly worried about the numerous large potholes on this primary route, which they believe pose a significant risk of accidents.
Daily commuters on this road have reported that the potholes, some quite large, have led to several minor incidents and have endangered driver safety. Reymundo Poot Aké, a local resident of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and taxi driver, stated that the road has been problematic for several months. He noted that the potholes are so large they pose a serious threat to the hundreds of travelers who use the road daily.
"It's like driving on an obstacle course," Aké said. "It's crucial that action is taken before a tragedy occurs, such as a vehicle veering off the road or colliding with another vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole."
Fausto Ek Pat, head of the National Transporters Union of Change (Untrac), pointed out that fortunately, only this stretch of the Carrillo – Tulum route poses a risk. However, he emphasized the need for authorities to intervene, as they have on the Carrillo – Chetumal route, which has similar issues.
"Thankfully, none of our vehicles have been involved in any accidents, and we hope it stays that way," Pat said. "We're asking authorities to take action now, rather than waiting for a major problem to arise. They need to take matters into their own hands and find a solution immediately."
Local authorities have yet to respond to the concerns raised by travelers. However, public pressure continues to mount. Drivers are hopeful that their complaints will result in a swift and effective resolution, allowing Federal Highway 307 to once again be safe for daily travel.
