Valladolid's main park is once again hosting its annual artisanal marketplace this holiday season. The event attracts local artisans who showcase their products to a diverse crowd of both national and foreign visitors. The park sees a significant increase in tourists during this time, who peruse the various stalls to purchase unique items.
The marketplace offers a wide variety of products, from handicrafts and leather goods to embroidered items and bone-made jewelry. Visitors can find sandals, huaraches, bags, wallets, belts, and more. The marketplace is a significant event for artisans like Arsenio Ávila Cauich, who rely on these occasions to sell their creations.
The marketplace, which began two days ago, will run until January 2, 2025. During this period, artisans like Ávila Cauich hope to make substantial sales, as they have done in previous years. Ávila Cauich shared that on a good day at the marketplace, he could make around $3,000 – a feat not possible on regular days when they work from their workshops.
When not at the marketplace, artisans like Ávila Cauich look forward to the Vallisoletano Sundays, a weekly event where they can sell their products. These weekends often attract craft vendors from Tulum, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Merida who come to buy from them.
The marketplace is not just limited to local products. Visitors can also find items from other municipalities within the State, such as guayaberas. With the anticipation of a high influx of visitors this season, artisans like Ávila Cauich have high hopes for a successful marketplace.
