The Tren Maya, a railway route under the leadership of General Óscar Lozano Águila, has often been criticized for its lack of tourists due to the absence of tours to the appealing destinations along its path. However, the ecotourism and adventure agency, Vamo’ a Rolá, is stepping in to change this.
Founded in Campeche seven years ago by the enthusiastic Joy Charles, Vamo’ a Rolá is set to launch a 10-day and 9-night Maya-Chiapas and Campeche Route package. The journey begins at the Villahermosa station and ends in Cancún.
Vamo’ a Rolá is no ordinary travel agency. It offers travelers a chance to immerse themselves in the biodiversity of the southeast, explore archaeological sites with expert local guides, and interact with local communities preserving natural and historical treasures. Travelers can also enjoy regional music, dance, and cuisine.
The new package from Vamo’ a Rolá starts in Villahermosa, with stops at Palenque, San Francisco de Campeche, Edzná-Seybaplaya, Mérida, Izamal, Valladolid, and finally, Cancún. Each stop offers a unique experience, exploring the local landscapes, monuments, and beaches, and most importantly, connecting with one of the most successful living indigenous cultures in the world.
These direct connections between travelers and the environment could be the key to making the Tren Maya a successful tool for sustainable development and inclusive growth in the Mexican southeast. If successful, it would be a valuable legacy of the Andrés Manuel López Obrador administration, funded by the hard work and sacrifice of the Mexican people and their environment.
