A serious accident occurred this morning on the Playa del Carmen-Cancún route, when a long-distance transport van rolled over, resulting in at least 11 injuries. The injured individuals required immediate medical attention.
The accident took place around 7:00 AM near the Blue Bay hotel. The van, which belongs to the “Lázaro Cárdenas del Río” union and bears the number 128, was on its way to Cancún.
Initial reports suggest that the van lost control and rolled over, ending up on its side by the roadside. After completing a roll, it landed back on its wheels. The passengers were able to exit the vehicle with the help of passing motorists, who also called 911. This led to several ambulances being dispatched to the scene.
Emergency services, including Civil Protection and Firefighter units, were on hand to assist in the rescue and manage traffic. Due to the location of the accident, it took about 40 minutes for responders to reach the scene from the police checkpoint at the Playa del Carmen exit.
The injured individuals were taken to IMSS 18 hospital for further evaluation. Meanwhile, the National Guard took responsibility for recovering the vehicle, aided by a tow truck.
Following the incident, the Secretariat of Citizen Security issued a warning via social media, advising travelers to exercise caution when passing through the area.
