Mayor Overhauls Animal Center Amid Vehicle Fire Drama

A vehicle was engulfed in flames following a collision with a barrier on Colosio Boulevard.

In unrelated news, Estefanía Mercado, the municipal president, has been overseeing the refurbishment of the Animal Control, Assistance and Zoonosis Center (CENCAAZ) in Playa del Carmen. The revamp of CENCAAZ is aimed at enhancing the facility and creating a secure, welcoming environment for animals.

The project promotes responsible pet adoption programs and encourages community education about pet care. During her site visit, Mercado revealed that, at the beginning of her term, the center had 160 dogs in its care, with 40% having since been adopted by local residents.

The refurbishment, which is backed by an investment of 10 million pesos, involves the creation of secure spaces, treatment areas, a veterinary clinic, and a shelter. This will provide comprehensive care for animals and support families with pets.

The project also includes the upgrade of facilities such as dog dormitories, consultation rooms, a cold room, and a medicine area among others.
