Isla Mujeres, Q. Roo – The municipal authorities of Isla Mujeres are urging everyone to take precautions due to severe weather and strong winds, resulting from a phenomenon known as "Surada", expected over the weekend.
In response to these conditions, they have advised both locals and tourists visiting the beaches to take extra care to prevent accidents.
Recommended precautions include following the guidance of lifeguards, adhering to the color-coded flag system on the beaches, respecting the buoyed areas, avoiding alcohol if planning to swim, and for those navigating the seas, staying aware of the notices issued by the Harbor Master.
It's important to note that Isla Mujeres has seven lifeguards on duty, with three stationed at Centro Beach, three at North Beach, and one at Media Luna Beach.
The flag system on the beaches uses green to signify open beach and red to indicate a closed beach. It's crucial to check the flag color before entering the water.
Additionally, authorities are urging people not to expose themselves to the sun excessively, as there is a risk of heatstroke, which can be particularly dangerous for adults and young children.
