Riveting Protest Unfolds: Former Deputy Detained Amid Controversy

This morning, supporters of Emiliano Ramos Hernández gathered outside the Oral Courts of Playa del Carmen. They then proceeded to the federal highway exit towards Cancún, blocking the central lanes and demanding justice for Hernández. The former federal deputy was sentenced to two years of preventive detention today on charges of family violence.

"Justice!" the protesters chanted, brandishing banners and tarps. Deysi Taboada, the mother of Hernández's first daughter, argued that his arrest was politically motivated. She alleged that the president of the State Judicial Tribunal, Heyden Cebada Rivas, was acting in favor of Hernández's ex-partner, elected deputy Paola Moreno Córdoba. Taboada claimed that Rivas and Córdoba are romantically involved.

Hernández's current partner revealed that she had filed a complaint for violence against Córdoba in February 2023 for mistreating her daughter. However, a judge dismissed the case in February this year, allowing Córdoba to run for office. This decision, she argued, violated her daughter's rights.

Salvador Ramos Hernández, Emiliano's brother, declared during the protest that his brother is now a "political prisoner". He claimed that the family violence charges were a ploy to separate him from his daughters and seize his assets. "We are living in a state where influence trafficking prevails, where a human being's fundamental rights are violated," he declared.

Emiliano's mother, Blanca Hernández, appealed to the governor for justice. She also lamented that she had not been able to see her granddaughter for 60 days due to Córdoba's refusal to allow visitation.
