A man who had gone to Tulum International Airport to pick up a friend was reportedly assaulted by taxi drivers from the "Lázaro Cárdenas del Río" Union today. The drivers also allegedly fired shots at his vehicle. The victim, a man in his thirties, captured the incident on video as he was leaving the airport.
The footage, which is just over two minutes long, shows a taxi driver exiting his vehicle and approaching the man's car to confront him. The driver insists that he does not work for Uber. The incident was also witnessed by the people the man had picked up from the airport, including his friend and another foreign national.
In a subsequent short video, the driver stated that he was accosted by five taxi drivers shortly after the initial incident. He claimed that one of the drivers fired a shot at his car's front window.
The State Mobility Institute of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) has announced the cancellation of the offending taxi driver's license.
