The Foundation of Parks and Museums of Cozumel (FPMC) is inviting the public to a unique event on Saturday, February 22, at 06:30 am. The event will take place at Punta Sur Ecotourism Park, where attendees can observe an Archaeoastronomical phenomenon at the "El Caracol" ruins. FPMC's general director, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the New Agreement for Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo. This agreement, championed by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, encourages spaces that connect people with nature and raise ecological awareness.

The day will also include a "Footprints of Consciousness" meditation session, guided by Spanish teacher Luis Miguel Pérez Martín. Additionally, there will be an activity focused on restoring the mangrove ecosystem. These activities underscore FPMC's commitment to environmental education and natural resource conservation, according to Jesús Benavides Andrade, the director of Punta Sur.

Benavides Andrade described the event as a fantastic opportunity for learning and connecting with the diverse ecosystems within the ecological reserve. Attendees will first have the chance to witness the sun align with the upper dome of the "El Caracol" ruins.

The subsequent activity will be the “Footprints of Consciousness” meditation, led by Luis Miguel Pérez Martín, a teacher of the Mahāyāna tradition. Pérez Martín is a student of renowned masters such as The XIV Dalai Lama, SS, Lama Lobsang Zopa Rimpoche, Gueshe Lobsang Jampel, and Gueshe Tempa Dargye, who are internationally recognized figures in Buddhism.

The final activity will involve planting propagules in the mangrove ecosystem. Benavides Andrade emphasized that the observation of the astronomical phenomenon, where the sun aligns with the windows of the "El Caracol" ruins' dome, will be weather-dependent. Admission is free, but those interested must register in advance by emailing parquepuntasur@cozumelparks.org.
