Law enforcement officials from the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo, the National Guard, and the Secretary of Marina conducted simultaneous raids on two bars, potentially rescuing a number of women who were victims of sexual exploitation.
The operation took place in the early hours of Saturday. The first location targeted was the "El Acuario" bar, situated at the intersection of streets 4 and 2. Within half an hour, 12 people were arrested, including employees and owners of the establishment. Eight women were also provided assistance. Shortly thereafter, the "Baby's Hot" bar, located on Playa del Carmen Boulevard, was shut down by security forces following reports of prostitution and drug trafficking taking place on the premises.
The exact number of individuals assisted or arrested at the second location is not yet confirmed. However, initial reports suggest that at least a dozen victims of trafficking were rescued and a similar number of people were detained. Authorities found evidence at both locations suggesting the possible occurrence of crimes such as human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the illegal activities and to identify those responsible.
Both bars have been closed and officially sealed. The rescued women will receive aid and support from the authorities. Meanwhile, the detained individuals will be interrogated to establish their role in the alleged crimes.
